Larian Studios Reveal a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The speculation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team might be crafting a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be approached in multiple ways, often in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, players can anticipate another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
